University Women Association, Delhi

The University Women’s Association of Delhi (UWAD) was established in 1950. The main aim of UWAD is to educate and empower women from the socially disadvantaged sections of society.

For the past many decades, UWAD has been awarding Scholarships on need-cum-merit basis to under-graduate, post-graduate and girls who are pursuing some vocational courses.

UWAD always positively utilises the potential and educational capacities of its members for delivering better services to the communities especially college girls, rural women and needy women.

UWAD shares and develops skills through projects and programs executed by its members who share their skills and help train the participants.

Some of the positive initiatives undertaken by UWAD are:

  • Creating awareness among urban women about Waste Management
  • Workshop on Personality Development and Leadership Skills
  • Improving Health and Nutritional Status of Adolescent Girls
  • Legal Literacy
  • Holding Seminar-cum-Interactive Workshops

In 2016, the National Level (IFUWA) BRPID Project ‘Women’s Economic Empowerment Education and Income Generation Projects’ was successfully completed by UWAD. It also successfully held a Seminar-cum-Interactive Workshop on Entrepreneurship: ‘Key to Empowerment of Women’

UWAD annually organises commemorative functions such as Women's Day, UN Day and Bina Roy Memorial Seminar, etc.

UWAD encourages new members in its Association. Women holding degrees from recognised universities are eligible for Ordinary Membership and may be enrolled as Ordinary Members after due diligence.

Continuing this journey of development for well over 7 decades, UWAD looks to promising and productive years ahead.
