University Women's Association, although, established in 1922 in Madras, was revived in 1952 by its first President Mrs Alamelu Govindarajan.

The main aim of the University Women's Associations Madras is women empowerment and augmenting financial independence by providing annual scholarships to deserving women candidates. Emphasizing on evolution through education, the Association imparts and helps update knowledge through seminars and lectures in various fields such as law, health and education. It raises funds towards scholarships to be awarded to meritorious and deserving students from the local women's college.
